I first heard Paul speak at a meeting in the late 1970s. He was inspirational, and provided me with a large part of the motivation and strength to get involved with the London Gay Teachers' Group (a fore-runner of Schools OUT). I owe him a great deal, as do countless others, and am so grateful to have had the opportunity to see him again, after many years, at the conference earlier this year. He was a wonderful man.
