I met Paul after I started at Crofton - in fact I got the job because he left in the summer of 1996. Even before I met him I felt I knew him - he was a real legend at the school and much loved by the English department for his willing to share, love and unfailing ability to tell it like it is. He was passionate about education, literature, drama and life - and a real beacon for gay teachers like myself in being out at work. He demanded the highest principles of those around him - and was unfailing in his determination to tackle homophobia in every aspect of eduction. You could never get a word in until he was so drunk that he fell asleep on you. He is much missed.
